I learned first thing this morning that the forces of nature were back at work here in New Zealand when I saw the headline “Possible eruption on Mt Tongariro” (since updated to “Tongariro volcanic alert maintained“). It’s the first time in over a century that the volcano has erupted.
It’s also one of the volcanos we saw when we did our Tongariro Crossing hike.
Living in New Zealand has exposed me to a variety of natural disasters and threats. Earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunami warnings…it’s all so very different from what I experienced growing up in the prairies.
When I moved over here, my dad suggested I invest in an emergency kayak. Thanks, dad. 😉
